Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus - BTU Cottbus

The BTU Cottbus is an internationally recognized, innovation-oriented Technical University for research and teaching in the state of Brandenburg, Germany. Its focus areas are environment, energy, materials science, building and construction as well as information and communication technologies. The university has a clear interdisciplinary approach, as reflected for example in the project-oriented cooperation in research and teaching that goes beyond the individual subject areas.

The Chair of Municipal Technology, Prof. Dr. - Ing. Matthias Koziol is part of the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Urban Planning of the University. The Chair has extensive experience in the design of transformation processes of grid-supply infrastructure such as water, electricity or heating, and sanitation. Research activities at the Chair use both disciplinary and interdisciplinary topics in different areas of the municipal technology. Current research interests are in support of measures for energy regeneration (possibilities of energy conservation, energy efficiency and use of renewable energies, e. g. analysis of future prospects of tube based heat supply in several eastern German cities) and the transformation of network infrastructure (conceptual development of sustainable solutions in the field of water and sanitation). More interdisciplinary research topics concerned with the sustainability of urban settlement and urban technical networks, the consequences of population development (declining population) for the functioning of the technical infrastructure and the resulting impact on the economy. Further disciplinary research topics include the integration of renewable energy sources into existing systems of municipal technology, flexible and complex media by developing modular systems, concepts for environmentally friendly city transport and for disabled transport.

Current research issues and results find their way into the teaching and secure in this way, the practical relevance and timeliness in providing knowledge as a basis of sustainable acting of future planners and engineers. Thus, for the BTU, the transnational approach of PEA project is through the common experience and knowledge gained - in terms of transferable concepts and implemented projects - an important core for the sustainable development and competencies of their own region. The University secures that own experiences for the region Prignitz and for all other participating project partners are available and will contribute with its expertise, particularly in the WPs 3, 4, 5 and 6.
